The State of Arkansas has over 200,000 residents of Latino/Hispanic descent. For the continued unification of Arkansans and in order to prepare our children for a multilingual world, it is imperative that they learn the Spanish language as early as possible.
The Central Arkansas Spanish Spelling Bee was created in 2021 to promote the learning and retention of the Spanish language at an early age in an environment outside of the standard classroom.
The eyes, ears, and minds of native English speaking children will be opened to a new world. They will receive early exposure to a the Spanish language and get a jump-start on acquiring the skill.
Children who are native Spanish speakers will be reminded to be proud of their language and culture
Latino/ Hispanic children who do not speak the language will see the importance of reconnecting with their roots

Professor of Spanish and Hispanic Literature and Culture at the University of Central Arkansas

That's okay! This competition only requires them to learn 100 Spanish words. Plus, we will have 3 in-person practice sessions prior to the event so that you all can get more comfortable.
Well, it definitely won't be easy.
As the parent/guardian, you have to be a driving force behind the child's preparation (making sure they practice every day, helping them practice, etc.). If you and the child are willing to put in the work, we're here to ensure you all have everything you need to prepare.
